Team Cumulative GPA - GPA
Purpose: To stress the importance that LHS promotes student-athletes who excel first in the classroom and then in the field of play.
Mission: To provide the opportunity and structure for student athletes to apply study skills.
Guidelines: To promote the importance of learning study skills, student-athletes, who are in season, will be allowed to work with their Academic Coach on Wednesdays during 2nd Period. After attendance, announcements, and D.E.A.R time, student-athletes will report to their designated area to “clock in” and begin a study hall session lead by the program’s Academic Coach. As always, 75% of the team must be present to earn Champions Points. In addition, one team study hall a week (outside of 2nd period), with full participation should equal a total of 90 minutes per week. There is a total of 35 Champions Points to be earned each season. Thirty-five will be divided by the number of weeks in the individual season to determine the weekly totals.
Classroom Leadership: In addition, student-athletes who are a part of an athletic program during the school year are charged with the task of being leaders in the classroom. Each teacher at LHS will have the opportunity to reward leadership in the classroom by presenting a “Gathering of Champions: Leader in the Classroom” ticket to a student-athlete whom demonstrates this attribute. Student athletes will be recognized monthly with a photo that will appear on both the GOC and LexSchools Website and local papers. Each student-athlete will also earn a Champions Point for his or her respective team(s).
**Note: Students, who are not participating in athletics, can also be recognized for outstanding behavior in the classroom. Teachers can nominate students for Lexington Pride: Leaders in the Classroom by following the same procedures as before mentioned. Tickets can be presented to these students in the same way and their picture will also be taken.
